Now that Crystal Lake is bringing back the Friday the 13th franchise, A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger deserves his return to the spotlight. In the 1980s, Halloween, A Nightmare On Elm Street, and Friday the 13th were the three biggest slasher franchises. While the cheaply produced Friday the 13th sequels were abhorred by critics, the Nightmare on Elm Street movies fared better (at first), while Halloween’s critical decline didn’t stop the franchise from being the most financially successful of the three.
