A TV character isn't gone unless there's a body, and even then, they might come back from the dead better than ever. Sometimes, an actor decides to leave a series and then come back to it a few seasons later, or a streaming service decides a big sacrifice will help boost subscriptions and add some melodrama, resulting in a TV character being killed off and resurrected. Whatever the reason, it's not the end of their development, and sometimes even serves as a kind of rebirth.
